UTICA, NY -- The Rotary Clubs of Utica, North Utica/Whitestown, New Hartford, and Sauquoit honored seven Utica-area teachers May 2 at their annual Outstanding Educators Awards Program. The program, presented during Utica Rotary’s weekly luncheon at the Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford, is an annual event of the four area Rotary Clubs’ community service committees.

The 2019 Outstanding Educators are:

  • Clinton Central High School: Katie Petrie.
  • New Hartford Senior High School: Donna Zippin.
  • New York Mills Junior/Senior High School: Michael Eramo.
  • Notre Dame Junior-Senior High School: Brandy Miller.
  • T.R. Proctor High School: Lorraine Griffiths.
  • Sauquoit Valley High School: Mike Eisinger.
  • Whitesboro Central High School: Lisa Alexander.
Rotary Club of Utica President David Bagley noted: “Utica Rotary and our fellow Rotary Clubs are especially honored to present the awards to teachers who are chosen by their own students for exemplifying the Rotary motto of ‘Service Above Self’ in their teaching.”

The awards event comes at the culmination of a year-long program during which area Rotary clubs hosted two students from each of seven area high schools. The students each had an opportunity to introduce themselves to the Rotary members, and to learn about Rotary’s community, regional and international services, which fulfill the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self.”

At the end of the school year, the students from each school are asked to select the teacher who they believe exemplifies the Rotary motto, and the values of Rotary, as exemplified in its Four Way Test:

  1. Is it the truth?
  2. Is it fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
