Announcements:
  • 20 volunteers are needed, Rotarians or not, to man the Parkway Rec Center water station at the Boilermaker July 14th. Please sign up at a meeting by April 30th.
  • The District Conference, to be held in Lake Placid, is May 3rd – 5th
  • The district training assembly is at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill HS on Saturday April 4th from 8:00 – 12:00
  • The Recap News Committee is looking for additional members willing to help with the recap on a rotating basis. If interested, contact Michelle Brandstadt or Tina Pavlot.
  • The membership committee is meeting up for a social mixer the last Wednesday of each month. Members are encouraged to stop in, bring a guest, and enjoy one another’s company. Wednesday March 27th they will be meeting at the Beer Hub on Genesee Street in South Utica.
  • Greater Utica Sunrise Rotary Club is having a pancake breakfast fundraiser on April 13, 8-10 a.m. at St. Margaret’s House, 47 Jordan Rd., New Hartford
  • North Utica-Whitestown Rotary Club is having a pancake breakfast fundraiser for high scholarships on April 7, 8-11:30 a.m. at North Utica Community Center, 50 Riverside Dr., Utica; members of Utica College football team will be serving
  • Outstanding Educator Program news: Joe Caruso announced that May 2nd is the presentation of the outstanding educators’ awards to local educators. Next week students from Notre Dame will be in attendance. Mario Colone has volunteered to join the Outstanding Educator Program.
 
Program: Maria Pavelock introduced Utica College Professor of Government & Politics, Dr. Luke Perry. Perry is Chair of the department and directs the Utica College Center of Public Affairs and Election Research. He is a columnist for the Observer Dispatch, is an analyst for WKTV and has provided commentary for The New York Times as well as other media outlets.
 
He spoke today on “U.S. Elections – why candidates matter less than you think”. He highlighted some factors to consider for the 2020 elections: voter registration, geography and voter turnout. He gave us quite the education and answered questions from Rotarians.
