All The News That Fits.....

Rotary's Haiti Relief Effort - World Vision is a Christian humanitarian charity organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. This organization is offering a 100% match of all donations to their Haiti relief fund from Utica Rotarians. Donations are accepted by mail at this address:

World Vision
Attn: Rynell
4325 Upton Ave S
Minneapolis, MN 55410

and note that you are a member of Utica Rotary. Your contribution will be doubled.

A Hot Time at the Ice Fest- Tully Rotary is coordinating a Regional American Heritage Festival celebrating Tully Area Historical Society's 30th Annual Reenactment of the Tully Ice Harvest on February 20 and 21. As part of the fun, the Tully Club is conducting a contest to find the best chili in District 7150. Click here for the official entry form.

YE Student Now Royalty - Our Youth Exchange student from Switzerland, Janos, has been elected King of Clinton, or at least King of Clinton High School. We are unsure of the rights and privileges that accompany the title, but this Heather Moksness cell phone photo shows that Janos is very pleased with the designation. While we're on the subject, please remember that on Friday February 5 we will attempt to assemble a complete set of US state quarters for Janos at our meeting. Please get your quarters together, and bring them to Twin Ponds. Surplus coins will be donated to the Eradicate Polio campaign.

Mirikitani Exhibit- Jimmy Tsutomu Mirikitani is an 89 year old Japanese-American artist who lost his family and friends to US internment camps and the bombing of Hiroshima during WWII. He has lived through the trauma of those events by creating artwork. His work will be exhibited in the Loretta M. Romano Room Gallery at the Stanley through March 22. The exhibition, sponsored in part by Utica Rotary, is a tangible example of the healing powers of creativity.

Service Fund Needs You - Thank you to those members who responded this week to our plea for help with our Service Fund drive. Kevin Marken reports that we are about three quarters of the way to our $20,000 goal. Your money will be well spent:

Columbus School partnership - $2,000
Projects for the special needs community - $3,600
Literacy projects - $1,000
Group Study Exchange teams - $700
Youth Exchange - $3,800
Urban Concerns projects - $2,000
Youth Services/Mentor programs - $1,700
Vocational Awards (Pride of Workmanship, Quiet Giver) - $1,000

Every dollar of your donation goes directly to service projects.
