PP Lou Steppello to Lead District - The district 7150 nominating committee has unanimously chosen our own PP Lou Steppello as its proposed candidate for District Governor Nominee Designate for the 2012-2013 Rotary year. PP Lou is on track to lead our district starting in July, 2012. Congratulations, Loouuuuuuuu!
There's Room for You on the Bus - John Burdick reports that if you want to go skiing with fellow Rotarians on Thursday, January 28, he'll finagle a seat on the bus for you. Skiers will meet at the New Hartford Shopping Center at 7:00am, and head to Gore Mountain. The day includes dinner at the Melody Lodge in Speculator.
Bring Your Quarters on February 5 - Our Youth Exchange student from Switzerland, Janos, is interested in collecting a full set of 50 state quarters as a souvenir of his visit. He will be at Twin Ponds at our Friday meeting on February 5, which has been declared Quarters for Janos Day. Collect your state quarters from your change purses, ash trays, junk drawers and sofa cushions, and we'll attempt to assemble a full set of 50 state quarters for Janos before the meeting ends. Surplus quarters will be donated to our Eradicate Polio effort.
More Books For the World - Utica Rotarians PDG Larry Calabrese, DGND Lou Steppello, and Joe Skane joined other Rotarians and friends to pack two pallets (48 cartons) of donated books to be shipped to South Africa as a continuation of out districts Books for the World project. Our club literacy chair is JoElyn Wakefield Wright. The lion's share of the books came from the former Lourde's school and from elementary schools in the New Hartford district. Photos next week.
Service Fund Lags - We have collected about $11,000 in pledges toward our $20,000 Service Fund goal, and have not heard from nearly half of our members. If we can't close this gap in the coming weeks, our options will be to cut some of our projects or plan some fund raising events. Some of our annual service expenses include the following:
Columbus School partnership - $2,000
Projects for the special needs community - $3,600
Literacy projects - $1,000
Group Study Exchange teams - $700
Youth Exchange - $3,800
Urban Concerns projects - $2,000
Youth Services/Mentor programs - $1,700
Vocational Awards (Pride of Workmanship, Quiet Giver) - $1,000
Every dollar of your donation goes directly to service projects. How many charitable funds can make that claim? Please support your club and its projects.
