Thanks to Us, Vols Left Holding the Bag

We received a letter of thanks from Bob Roth, Director of the Oneida County Youth Bureau, for our support of their Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up program.

"The donation was used to buy rakes, brooms, gloves and bags, giving us the ability to serve more Oneida County elderly and disabled through our program. Last spring, we had 200 volunteers serving 60 locations county-wide. This grew to 330 young people serving 90 in the fall, despite a cold, rainy day. The youth volunteers are outstanding representatives of their respective colleges, high schools and organizations. They are great examples of caring, considerate and giving people we can and should be proud of.

Thank you for seeing the value of this initiative and generously donating."

This is another example of the good work we Rotarians support through our donations to the Utica Rotary Service Fund.

The Penree Is Mightier

by Mary Lou Reape Bowler and Wordsmith

On Tuesday December 8 Rotarian George Penree (North Utica) rolled a perfect game at Pin-o-Rama in the Rotary Bowling League! That is the first time I have ever witnessed this Herculean event. It was made even more impressive by the fact that he had rolled 4 strikes in a row at the end of the previous game. In all he rolled 16 consecutive strikes!!!! That's five turkeys in a row plus one for good measure!

The bad news is his team was bowling against that Rotary Bowling League juggernaut called the Hubbers - Bob "Eggs" Benedict, "Won't You Come Home" Bill Davies, Mary Lou "So Shall Ye" Reape, and Beryl "The Pearl" Evans, a non-Rotarian local bowling Hall of Famer. Supporting the view that bowling is a team sport, the Hubbes took 3 of 4 points for the night, and are in solid second place.

This was Rotary bowling history, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
