From Our Hands to Yours.....

The Utica Rotary Club and the North Utica-Whitestown Rotary Club recently presented hand made mittens, hats and scarves to the children of Columbus School. This is the second year of Grannys Mittens, an intergenerational project that brings together women from Acacia Village, the North Utica Senior Citizens Community Center and Utica school children. The women, who begin knitting during the summer, were honored by Rotary members at a recent meeting of each club and at a reception held at the school. Approximately 100 pairs of mittens, scarves and hats were presented.

Thanks go to PP Linda Allen, the coordinator of this wonderful project that links this talented group of ladies with the needs of our Columbus students.

Acacia Village knitters are Dorothy Chadbourne, Gladys Jones, Rose Jones, Evelyn Kio, Ruth Mead Packer, Angeline Pugliese, Sally Sommers, Roslyn Levine and Mabel Bohling. Karen OMara is the Activities Director at Acacia Village.

From the North Utica Senior Citizens Community Center, Jackie Chambrone, Joanne Cichon, Diane Debernardis, Tommi Delello, Annette Flynn, Lee Paul, Lucy Rondenelli and Helen Tomasiewicz were the kniiters. Yvonne McCluskey is the Director, and Mary Fusillo is the craft instructor.

News Bites

* For the week of December 25th our club meeting will be a joint meeting with the New Hartford Club on Wednesday December 23rd at 12:15 pm at Daniele's on Seneca Turnpike.

* The Rome Rotary Club is celebrating its 90th anniversary on Tuesday December 1st at 6:00 pm at the Franklin Hotel. Cost is $20 and reservations are requested by calling 337-3958 to reserve a spot (Sorry for the short notice on this one).

* Speaking of short notice, the New Hartford club is holding its major annual fundraiser on Wednesday December 2nd at 7:00 pm at Daniele's on Seneca Turnpike. Many items will be auctioned.

* A Utica Rotary Past President and honorary member continues to support the club through the Service Fund. Norm Kolb has sent us a check from Fredericksburg, Va. Thanks for thinking of us, PP Norm.

* Ballot information for the election of Utica Rotary officers and directors for 2010-2011 has been sent to the email addresses of our active members. If you haven't received an email notice with the subject "Ballot for Officers and Directors, 2010-2011", please click here to email secretary Dana Jerrard. Completed ballots will be accepted until 10:00am on Friday, December 11.
