19th Pride of Workmanship Awards
This Friday Utica Rotary honors outstanding local workers with the Pride of Workmanship Awards. We first presented this Award in 1991, soon after it was brought to the US by the Moravia Rotary Club.John Wolff and Paul Sacco are in charge of the program, so we are assured that it will be professionally and energetically presented.

Opportunities Abound.....
Autumn is in its full glory in the Mohawk Valley, and likewise the Utica Rotary Club is ablaze with opportunities to serve others. Please consider making a difference by your participation in one of the projects listed, and bring along a family member to lend a hand.* Several classrooms at our adopted Columbus School need Rotary Reader volunteers. There is great flexibility in scheduling; some classes prefer visits every other week, and a few would only require a monthly visit. In the past Rotarians have shared a class to accommodate busy schedules. Click here to email Ron Kamp for more information or to volunteer.
* The courtyard classroom at Columbus could use some sprucing. PP Mike Van Strander could use a dozen able bodied recruits to pull weeds and do general cleanup on Friday, October 30 starting at 3:00pm. Email Mike to sign up. With a full complement of volunteers, two hours should do the trick.
* For the next four Friday meetings the Urban Concerns Committee is collecting board games suitable for teenagers. Who knows how many usable board games lie dusty in the attics and basements of Rotary families? Please take a few moments to gather your dormant games that will be treasured by area families.
* The next Family Fishing Derby run by the Urban Concerns Committee is tentatively scheduled for Friday, October 30. Details will follow in The Hub when confirmed.
* MVCC is the place, November 20 is the date for Utica Rotary's 38th Special Needs Holiday Party. The date is a few weeks earlier this year to accommodate the busy calendar of The Arc, celebrating its 55th anniversary this year. Featured entertainment will be The Flame, and volunteers will be needed for table service (no buffet this year). Once again Amy Mielnicki is chairing the event and coordinating Rotary volunteers. Setup begins at 3:00pm, and general volunteers are needed at 5:00pm. Please email Amy to sign up for this flagship Utica Rotary event.

Rotary Community Corps Formed
The Arc, along with Human Technologies Corporation, has started a new service group for young adults with disabilities. Sponsored by Utica Rotary, this group is called The Rotary Community Corps. Group members value community service and want to improve quality of life for others. This group has already completed its first project, collection and donation of school supplies for distribution to low income children. A collection within The Arc family netted many boxes of supplies that enabled many school children to start off the school year fully prepared.
The Corps is considering other projects, including serving lunch at the Hope House, and collecting used books and clothing for a local daycare center.
We thank Angela VanDerhoof for spearheading this project, and creating another group of volunteers that is making a difference in the lives of others.
