European Invasion

The three inbound Youth Exchange students sponsored by Utica Rotary for the 09-10 school year paid us a visit last Friday at Twin Ponds. Vincent (Belgium), Janos (Switzerland), and Sophie (Austria) each gave a presentation about his/her homeland, and gave a brief synopsis of their stay in the US to date.

We learned much about our guests and their homelands, but also learned a bit about each other through our guests' programs. Those in attendance now know that there is only one degree of separation between William Tell and Utica Rotary Past President Jack Altdoerffer. Music lovers know doubt had tunes swimming in their heads at the mention of the Danube, edelweiss or, for that matter, William Tell.

Our three students are in the first quarter of their year with us. Please consider inviting one or more of these international ambassadors to a meal or family outing. It is guaranteed to be beneficial to all concerned!

International Programming Continues....

It is often said that the among the best and most interesting Friday programs are those presented by our own members. This Friday promises to continue that tradition as we welcome Utica Rotarian Peter Vogelaar to the podium. Peter will tell us about his trip to Burma (or is it Myanmar? Come Friday to find out>). We are sure to hear about the plight of refugees from this unstable corner of the world, some of whom have settled here in the Mohawk Valley.
