A Whirlwind Week With GSE Guests
Our thanks go out to PE Jim Turnbull and the Group Study Exchange committee for hosting our guests from District 2640, Osaka, Japan this week. Special kudos to those Rotarians and families who hosted team members: PDG Larry and Annabelle Calabrese, PP Dom and Tina Passalacqua, John and Kathleen Howard and Heather and Bjorn Moksness. We also thank those who took time from their work days to transport our guests, or host vocational sessions at their businesses: Angela VanDerhoof, Jeff Wooldridge, Jeff Jones, Amy Mielnicki, Mary Lou Reape, Kevin Marken, Catherine McEnroe, and Sadiann Zogby Spear.
In addition to those mentioned above, many Utica Rotarians took full advantage of the opportunity to meet the team at two make-up meetings this week: PP Andy Alesia, PP Linda Allen, P Greg Benincasa, PP Jack Dale, Jim Day, Steve Havlovic, PP Dana Jerrard, PP Dave Jones, Pam Matt, Norma Montagnino-Gemza, Darby O'Brien, PP Louuuuu Steppello, Peter Vogelaar and Bill Waszkiewicz.
By my count this makes 27 Utica Rotarians, and many more family members involved in some way in the Group Study Exchange visit.
The Japanese team attended the District Conference in Albany this past weekend, and is now in the western part of District 7150 for touring and vocational days.

Much Work Goes Into Youth Exchange Success
Utica Rotary is the flagship club in our highly regarded district youth exchange program. Our area YE consortium of Rotary clubs has worked to grow interest in youth exchange in our local high schools. Utica Rotarians continue to play key roles at both the consortium and district levels.Utica Rotarians work throughout the year to ensure the continued success of youth exchange. Last week PP Jack Altdoerffer, Shawki Elgarhi and Heather Moksness (herself a former exchange student) spent a morning at Clinton High School to introduce youth exchange. After their presentations, twenty seven Clinton students signed the "I Am Interested" sheet. For some, this is the first step in the life altering journey that is Rotary Youth Exchange.
We thank Jack, Shawki, Heather, and all the Rotarians who devote so much of their time and resources to this program. Please greet the students who visit us at Twin Ponds, and talk to Jack about how you might contribute to the program.
