Japanese Businesswomen Arrive Soon!
From Group Study Exchange chair PE Jim Turnbull:Our district will be receiving a Group Study exchange team from Osaka, Japan, District 2640. The team of five women will be arriving on Sept. 19th and will be in our area for the first week of their month long exchange. Urica Rotary will be hosting them from Sunday, Sept 20 to Friday Sept 25th when they will attend the district conference in Albany.
Angela Vanderhoof is coordinating housing for the five nights that the team will be with us. If you are interested in housing any of the team members, please contact Angela.
If you are interested in helping with the GSE committee activities, please click here to send me an email. Planning meetings are underway; most often we get together before our Friday meeting.
While the team is here we are planning two joint evening meetings with other clubs, to allow as many Rotarians as possible to meet the team and see their presentation.
This is always a wonderful Rotary International experience. Please see the District link for more info in the team, and some photos.

LOUUUUUUUUUUUU!!
This Friday Utica Rotarians pay tribute to the man who led the club to great accomplishments during the 2008-09 Rotary year. IPP Lou Steppello will be the man of the hour, and our Past Presidents Comnmittee has worked tirelessly to prepare a fitting tribute for Lou.
PP Andy Alesia (pictured here in his "before" photo) is the chair of the PPs, and has assured The Hub that the program will be entertaining, appropriate for all ages, and above all, a fitting tribute to a man who has contributed so much to the success of our club. "I must tell you, however," explained PP Andy in a qualifying statement, "that the 'appropriate' part is in comparison to Sunday night's Comedy Central Roast of Joan Rivers".
At great expense to the club, the Past Presidents have flown an international celebrity in from the Old Country to act as Master of Ceremonies this Friday. Giovanni del Lobo has a CV that is the envy of most men; he will be charged with maintaining the civility of the proceedings and keeping the wiseguys in check.
Please join us this Friday at Twin Ponds as we say "thank you" (among other things) to Immediate Past President LOUUUUUUUUUU!!!

Volunteers Needed for Arc County Fair
In 2009 the Arc Oneida-Lewis Chapter is celebrating its 55th anniversary of service to the special needs community. Utica Rotary has worked hand in hand with the Arc on many projects, and for the last 37 years Utica Rotarians, Arc staff and friends of both organizations have thrown one of the best holiday parties around. This Saturday, August 15th, marks another opportunity for service. The Arc County Fair will take place at Sherrill Brook Park in New Hartford. The event begins with a walk within the park followed by a picnic with food, fun, and games. The route is approximately 1 mile long and our individuals, family members and staff have the option of walking 1, 2, or 3 miles.
Volunteers are needed to help with the walk from about 10:00am to 12:30pm. The role of the volunteer will be fairly simple; they will be stationed at locales along the route to encourage and basically direct traffic. We have 141 walkers participating and need 8 to 10 volunteers. If Rotarians and family members would be willing to help out, please give Special Needs Committee chair Amy Mielnicki a call - 797-8400 or click here to email Amy. We would appreciate your help.
