DG Fred Cholet to Visit This Friday

The District Governor for 2009-2010 will make his official visit to Utica Rotary this Friday at Twin Ponds.

DG Fred Cholet was born and raised in the east side of Syracuse, and graduated from Nottingham High School. He worked for Sims Casting Corp. from 1961 to 1964 when he went into the U.S. Army. He served in Southeast Asia for 17 months. When he returned, he joined the New York Army National Guard and served until 1972. He held the rank of sergeant first class.

In 1968 Fred received an appointment to the Syracuse Fire Department and worked there until his retirement in 2001. He also joined the DeWitt Volunteer Fire Department in 1969, and served until 2005. During his time in DeWitt he was chief for 10 years and deputy chief for 15 years. In addition, Fred worked for Wine Merchants Ltd. part-time from 1969 to 2005.

Fred joined DeWitt Rotary in 1982. He served on the board of directors, was club president twice and as assistant governor twice. He is the master chef in preparing the pancake batter for the annual Dewitt Pancake Day. He works closely with the Samaritan Center in Syracuse, NY in their fund raising efforts.

Fred is a Paul Harris fellow. In 1981 Fred met Arlene Borden and they have been together for 28 years.

Please come to Twin Ponds this Friday to meet the man who will lead our district this year.

Nominations for RI Director Sought

The Rotary world has recently been realigned, with our District 7150 joining 16 other Rotary districts from Michigan to Maryland to upstate New York in a new Zone 29. One Rotarian from this zone will be elected to serve on the Rotary International board of directors from July 2011 to June 2013. Any club in the zone may propose a past district governor to the RI Nominating Committee for consideration for this board seat.
