Club Notes
We express our appreciation to Rotarian of Excellence Shawki Elgarhi (recognized as such by our District in 2006) for hosting a reception to thank the administrators at the area high schools participating in our Youth Exchange program. Thanks to Shawki and club YE chair PP Jack Altdoerffer, the youth exchange program run by the consortium of local Rotary clubs is one of the best on the continent (in fact, it was selected the best in North America a few years ago). A measure of responsibility goes along with most Youth Exchange volunteer assignments, and PP Jack and committee attend to the details with great energy and professionalism. Along with the work necessary to run both inbound and outbound exchanges comes the rewards of meeting students from around the world, and watching them grow and mature during their short time with us.Sprucing the Camp - Here is an opportunity for you to brush up on your painting skills (get it?......brush up!). Amy Mielnicki needs your help on Tuesday, June 16 from 4:30 pm until completion (will definitely be before the sun goes down). We will be painting benches and clearing the flotsam and jetsam of winter at the ARC camp on Hacadam Road. Food and beverages will be provided....any painting tools that you might bring along will be appreciated. Amy will have signup sheets and more details at our Friday meetings.

Landmine Dinner Totals Announced
by PP Georgiana Roberts Ide
The final checks are in and we are extremely pleased to announce that Utica Rotary's Landmine Awareness efforts last month resulted in donations of $7,285. Donations were made both by those who attended our April 24, 2009 event at the Yahnundasis and those who contributed even though they were unable to attend. Thank you, thank you, thank you to our generous Rotarians and friends for your support and caring. As you know, our donations will be matched 100% by a HALO Trust / U.S. State Department grant, increasing our total for the event to $14,570. This total will directly benefit the HALO Trust de-mining project in Cambodia (K5 region) and be combined with additional funds raised by several Australian Rotary Clubs and the Seattle 4 Rotary Club, Seattle, Washington.
As the project continues, PP Dave Jones and I plan to keep you updated on the progress in Cambodia but, in the meantime, please stay connected to de-mining projects around the World by visiting the following websites from time-to-time.

In match 1, Gregg Karl and Bill Read will battle Helen Evans and........Bill Read.
