A Season of Thanks...

Utica Rotarians were out in force on Thanksgiving Day, making life just a bit better for those needing a helping hand in our community.

We thank those members who delivered meals on Thanksgiving morning: PP Don St Louis (organizer), P Lou Steppello, DG Larry Calabrese, Cheryl Eldred, PP Larry Golden, Carol Gilberti, Gail Miskowiec, PP Bill Davies, Fran Pugliese, Bill Waszkiewicz, Larry Sardelli, Neal Borenstein, Shawki Elgarhi and Rick Sebastian.

Meanwhile, across town, PP Dave Jones and 400 of his running buddies (including Utica Rotarians John Howard and PP Dana Jerrard) were donating more than a half ton of food and raising a ton of money to benefit local food pantries. Rotarians from the Greater Utica Sunrise club were on hand to gather and sort the donations for distribution. In the 24 years of this event (all chaired by PP Dave), nearly 30,000 lbs. of food has been collected and distributed. Fortunately, the run up the hill to The Eagle was scheduled before dinner.

This was our club at its finest....a good mix of new members and "seasoned" Rotarians getting together for a short time to make a big difference.

PP Mike - "It's Easy Being Green"

Another fantastic internal program comes to us this Friday thanks to Utica Rotarian PP Mike Van Strander. Mike will speak to us on the green revolution underway in the US, and what we as individuals can do to be better stewards of the only place we can call home.

PP Mike is hardly a bandwagon jumper when it comes to environmental awareness. In both his career and personal life, Mike has walked the talk on conserving our limited resources. Not many people know that Mike installed a personal windmill before windmills were cool!

Please consider bringing a prospective new member to what will be an enlightening program from one of our long time members.

Special Needs Party a Rotary Tradition

For the 38th consecutive year, Utica Rotary will present a Special Needs holiday party. More than 400 ARC consumers, staff, Rotarians and helper volunteers are expected to fill the Alumni College Center at MVCC this Friday evening.

Utica Rotarian Amy Mielnicki will once again chair the event, which will feature a holiday feast, mammoth sheet cake, dancing and a scheduled appearance by a beloved celebrity of the season.

This tradition started in 1971, with a modest luncheon and singalong for the children of the A.R.C. Over the years it grew to a nighttime event at Westminster Church in Utica, and when the festivities outgrew that venue, MVCC stepped in in 1986 with a space and service that we enjoy to this day.

Setup begins at 3:00pm at MVCC. If you haven't signed up and wish to volunteer, click here to email Amy. She will put you to work!
