Holidays Upon Us - Service Opportunities Abound
The end of the calendar year brings opportunities to give thanks for all that we enjoy, and to get together with family and friends. There are also opportunities to serve others during the last few weeks of 2008.PP Don St Louis is once again organizing our participation in the Thanksgiving Day meal deliveries from First Presbyterian Church on Genesee St. in Utica. Your participation in this morning tradition will give you a warm feeling as you sit down to dinner later in the day. Sign up sheets will be available this Friday, or you can click here to email PP Don.
Amy Mielnicki and her band of holiday elves are revved up for the 38th Annual Special Needs Holiday Party, to be held on Friday, December 5 at MVCC. Many have volunteered for this get together for 500 or so, but we can always use volunteers. Email Amy to let her know that you will be a volunteer at the longest continuous project of Utica Rotary.

Noah Webster?......Darby Does!!
Utica Rotary's Literacy Committee recently donated dictionaries to the third grade students in four Utica City Schools: Albany, Columbus, Hughes and Jones. Our club's gift totaled 340 dictionaries. This project was done as part of a larger effort with the Elks, North Utica-Whitestown Rotary, and Greater Utica Sunrise Rotary. Nearly 1100 dictionaries in all were distributed not only to Utica's public and parochial schools but also to the public schools in Whitesboro, Oriskany, New Hartford, New York Mills and Clinton as well as the House of Good Shepherd. Thank you to our Literacy Committee and chair PP Darby O'Brien for taking a leadership role in this project. This is a perfect example of your Service Fund dollars being leveraged to do great things in our community. The 2008-09 drive is about 40% toward it's goal of $20,000. To the 54 Rotarians who have given to date, we thank you.

Rotarians Head to the Hills for Traditional Ski Outing
Snow is coming are so is a bus load of happy skiers. The annual Rotary Ski Trip organized by our own John Burdick is set for Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009. It is the usual program with the bus picking up passengers in Clinton, New Hartford, Barneveld, and Oxbow Lake. A great day on the slopes at Gore Mountain will be followed by good food and fellowship at Melody Lodge in Speculator. We'll be home before 11P.M. Prices are: $100.00 adult, $90.00 age 65-69, and $55.00 over 70 or Gore season pass holders. Please send your $20.00 deposit to John Burdick soon because this popular bus excursion is in it's 9th year and fills up fast. The deadline for your deposit is December 15 or when the bus is full, whichever is sooner.
