Fifty is Nifty....But Where Are The Rest??
The '08-'09 Service Fund Drive is in full swing, and chair Kevin Marken reports that more than 50 Rotarians have sent their pledge of support. "Those who have responded have been very generous," said Kevin during an exclusive interview with The Hub. "In fact, the vast majority of pledges have been at or above the recommended $175 gift."Despite this early success, a long road lies ahead. Our club goal is to have every Utica Rotarian support this fund with a pledge. If we can get 100% participation from our members, the money will be there for all planned projects this year. Currently, we are a bit over 1/3 of the way to our goal of $20,000.
In January we will have our Service Fund prize drawing, with a top prize of a weekend for two at the Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid (If you need to know what a great prize this is, just ask past winners Carol and Bob Jubenville, Norma and Jim Gemza, or Rick and Missy Holohan). Each member pledging $175 to the fund will have a chance to win this and other prizes, and those giving $200 and above will have two chances.
Pledge cards are available at any Utica Rotary meeting. You can also pay online by clicking here, or send Kevin an email with your pledge amount.

Keeping Up With D Jones...
PP Dave Jones reports that more than 240 lbs. of food was donated to Hope House during our Friday collections during October. Thanks to all of our members who participated. Utica Rotary has had a long relationship with Hope House, and we thank PP Dave and others for keeping that linkage strong.Speaking of Mr. Jones and thanks, the 24th annual Thanksgiving Day Run & Walk to End Hunger is set for this Turkey Day. Click here for the event flyer. This is an ideal way to "pre-burn" some of those holiday calories, and support local food pantries in the process. More than TEN TONS of food has been collected by this event over the years.

Welcome, Lorina Steppello
The newest Utica Rotarian is certainly familiar to us by name. Lorina Steppello, niece of President Lou, has been actively involved in our club since mid-summer, and is looking forward to greater involvement as an official member.Lorina works for Primerica in the rough and tumble world of financial services.
Please say hello to Lorina this Friday.
