Meet Young Artist Sarah Geller

Performing to critical acclaim in many prestigious venues, violinist Sarah Geller has been hailed as possessing the simple, poised, confident stage presence of a seasoned performer. In June 2002, Sarah made her Carnegie Hall solo recital debut as a winner of the Artists International Special Presentation Award. Upon invitation from their Alumni Series, she also presented a solo recital in New Yorks Merkin Concert Hall in May 2004, premiering Jeffery Storys Driven for solo violin and dancer. Since her inaugural performance on the Donnell Library series in February 2004, Sarah has been awarded an annual appearance on their series.

SEGUE, an ensemble founded by Geller in 2005, features various combinations of award-winning artists, musicians and dancers. Committed to innovative programming, SEGUE often features lesser-known works by mainstream composers and premieres of new works. Since their dazzling debut performance on the Heritage Hills Concert Series in Somers, New York, SEGUE continues to appear on a variety of series, this season on the Ramapo College York Room Salon Series in New Jersey and the YM-YWHA of Washington Heights in Manhattan.

Frequently returning to her native Maine, Sarah is presented regularly on the Arts Institute of Western Maine series at the University of Maine at Farmington. Geller has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras across the Northeast, including the Ocean City Pops Orchestra (NJ), the Baroque Aria Ensemble (NYC), the Maine Chamber Ensemble and the Adelphi Chamber Orchestra.

In addition to her extensive performing schedule, Sarah enjoys educating the next generation of string players. She is currently on the faculty at School for Strings and for the past six years was the director and head violin teacher of the outreach string program, School for Strings at PS116. Sarah also continues to further her own studies with Joey Corpus. Her former principal teachers are Michael Gilbert, Patinka Kopec, Gregory Fulkerson and Lawrence Golan.

Please join us at Twin Ponds this Friday as Utica Rotarian Bob Mortis introduces us to another world class performer.

On Our Way.....

Among this morning's "snail mail" were Service Fund pledges from PP Don St Louis, Dave Bagley, and Jeff Wooldridge. Thank you for your support, gents. We have received pledges from about one quarter of our members to date, and have taken the first steps to our Service Fund goal of $20,000.

For more than 50 years your club's Service Fund has allowed Utica Rotarians to do great things. We have supported hundreds of exchange students, served thousands of meals, built outdoor classrooms, cabins at summer camps and a multi-purpose pavilion at the Utica Zoo. We have published a service directory for our local senior population, presented scholarships to college bound area students and honored excellence in teaching and the local workforce.

How many people have been touched by Utica Rotary programs since the "Welfare Fund" set a goal of $3500 back in 1955? I can't answer that, but I can tell you that it only happened through the work and generosity of our members.

To all who have given, we thank you for continuing this community tradition. If you haven't sent your pledge, please consider a gift at the recommended $175 level. Kevin Marken, our '08-09 fund drive chair, has some goodies for those giving at $175 or $200 and above as a thank you for Walking the Talk.

Please take a pledge card at our next Friday meeting, or pay online by clicking the "Donate" button on this website. President Lou is set a goal of 100% member participation, and asks each member of our club to give what he/she feels is appropriate.
