Brazilians to Arrive on September 5

The Group Study Exchange team from District 4750, Brazil, will arrive on 9/5 and spend the first week of their stay in the eastern end of our district, hosted by Utica Rotary.

The team consists of Rotarian leader Fabio Fagundes, a cartographer; Anderson Rodrigues, accountant; Renato Nascimento, attorney; Ingird Lins, marketing and management consultant; and Fernanda Rodrigues, chemical engineer. Jim Turnbull and our club's GSE team have planned a week of tours, events and vocational visits, to be followed by the District Conference in Alexandria Bay from September 12-14.

Because of the team's travel schedule there will be no presentation by the team at a Utica Rotary meeting. There are two opportunities to meet the team and see its presentation (in addition to the District Conference of course). On Tuesday, 9/9 the team will present to a joint Rotary meeting at the Blue Flag Room in Union Station in Utica. The meeting begins at 6:00 pm. The next evening (Wednesday, 9/10) the team will be at Orchard Hall in Sauquoit for a 6:00 joint meeting hosted by the Sauquoit Club.

Meet our guests and experience the "internationality" of your Rotary membership.

Ralph Roasted Royally

The expression "You have a funny way of saying 'thank you" was never more in evidence than it was last Friday as PP Andy Alesia and his gang of wild thespians presented "Separating the Truth from the Bald Faced Lies.....A Salute to PP Ralph." Utica Rotary's immediate past President, Ralph Imundo, was gracious throughout the 30 minutes of mayhem.

Ralph's legendary abilities as a ballroom dancer were a featured component in many of the presentations. A permanent dance partner was awarded to our IPP, however decorum prohibits the publication of pictures or descriptions of this latex tart. Ralph's week 2 transformation into a freshly shorn Rotarian was a common thread of the show.

Of course after the frivolity there was some time to sincerely thank Ralph for leading our club during 2007-08. From membership growth to projects from Lock 20 to Cambodia, it was a very good year. Thanks, IPP Ralph, for your devotion to our club!

THING TO DO THIS WEEK - SAVE THIRTY BUCKS

Because of the Labor Day holiday there is no meeting this Friday. Please consider one or both of the following as your Rotary duty this week:

1. If you haven't already done so, pay your member dues. Until 9/1, $200 will cover the cost of your membership for the 2008-09 Rotary year. After 9/1, the amount due is $230. It's as if your Uncle Lou gave you 7 gallons of free gas!

B. Consider a business colleague as a potential Utica Rotarian. Click here for a printable new member proposal card.

Have a great weekend!
