President Lou's View
Believe it or not - 2 weeks 'til Labor Day. Where did the summer go?!!We had a good July and August thanks to all of our volunteers at Adrean Terrace. The breakfast program was a great success. Connie Marcus of Catholic Charities expressed her thanks to our club - more than 600 meals served to children who could use a boost to start the day. Thanks to those Rotarians, family members and even a prospective member, Lisa Volo, who got a first hand look at Rotary service thanks to her sponsor, Virginia Barney.
We have walked the talk with our Youth Exchange and Group Study Exchange programs. Both our inbound and outbound Youth Exchange students have exprssed enthusiasm for the upcoming year. We wish them safe travels and a year of good health and enlightenment. We are still in need of a host family in the Clinton school district for a young man from Taiwan. Please see PP Jack Altdoerffer if you can lend a hand.
The GSE Committee is planning a busy schedule for our friends from Brazil, who are with us from Sept. 5 through the district conference on 9/14. Jim Turnbull and his team are setting up visits to area landmarks, sporting events and businesses appropriate to their requests. Jim could always use a hand during this busy time...don't be bashful about volunteering.
Because of the team's travel schedule, they will not be available for a Friday visit to Utica Rotary. There are several opportunities to meet the team while they are in this area: in the Blue Flag room at Union Station in Utica on Tuesday, 9/9 at 6:30 (North Utica/Whitestown Rotary), and at Orchard Hall in Sauquoit on Wednesday,9/10 at 6:30 pm (with the Sauquoit club).
This Friday is the infamous roast of the Bald Eagle. Be there for a unique perspective of our immediate past president.

Thought For Food
Utica Rotary has called Twin Ponds home for the past 15 years. The Girmonde family has literally served us well, responding to our every wish (including the arrival of 70 unexpected guests), and giving us a meeting place perfect for a club our size.President Lou, Angela VanDerhoof and Jo Ann Golden, comprise an ad hoc committee that is meeting with the Twin Ponds staff to talk about our meeting place. Rising costs and fewer meals served (less than 30 last week) have put the squeeze on Twin Ponds, so options such as a guaranteed minimum, a room charge, or sit down service are being considered. The meal offerings are also on the table (I can't believe I just wrote that).
The objective is to be Fair to All Concerned. We may be testing some options in the coming weeks......stay tuned with your fork at the ready!

You Look Nothing Like Your Photo!!
A glance through our club roster (available through your personal login at this website) reveals a need to update some member photos. Several appear to have been taken during the Nixon administration, and a few suspected high school yearbook photos are evident.Club photographer Chuck Kershner is developing a plan (get it....developing a plan) to update photos. If you have a recent photo that we could use in the roster, please email Chuck.
Please be advised that the photo below is an example of what we're not looking for.
