A New Meaning to Rotary Service

Utica Rotarian Fran Pugliese is looking for members interested in raising a racket on Thursday evenings this fall.

The Rotary tennis league needs players to fill out teams for its fall season. Players are scheduled for nine matches during an 18 week session, and there are plenty of opportunities to sub for those wishing to play more.

You needn't have the serve of Roger Federer or the court coverage of Venus Williams to play - all teams have players of varying levels of ability. The league bylaws only require players to get some exercise and have fun.

A membership at the Paragon Athletic Center is required to play in the league. Click here to email Fran if you are interested.

Dues Deadline Approaches

Treasurer Ken Williams reminds all members that annual dues of $200 per member are due by September 1 (this is a 15% reduction from 2007-08!!). After 9/1, a $30 upcharge will be assessed ($230 due).

Misplacing or not receiving your invoice is not an excuse for non-payment!! Click here to email Ken, or see him at a Friday meeting if you have any questions.

What Can You Do? - by President Lou

Heres a Rotary riddle. What do the following Utica Rotarians have in common: Dom Passalacqua, Shawki Elgarhi, Stew Williams, Bart Gorman, Angela VanDerhoof, Greg Benincasa, Jim Turnbull, Jack Altdoerffer, Larry Calabrese and Virginia Barney?

Each of these busy members has proposed at least one person for membership in our club in the last six months. August is Membership Month in the Rotary world, and Immediate Past President Ralph Imundo has agreed to lead the membership charge in our club.

I don't have to tell you why a strong membership base is important: resources, volunteers, ideas... in short, the ability to make a difference to the greatest extent possible.

What can you do? Consider a colleague, friend or co-worker as a potential Rotarian. Fill out a proposal card (click here for a printable version), and submit it to Secretary Dana Jerrard. Our membership committee will take it from there.

Each year clubs lose around 10% of their members to career changes, retirements, relocations, etc. That means to stay even we need to introduce 14 new members this Rotary year.

Join the ten Utica Rotarians listed above and "walk the talk" when it comes to keeping our club strong (my proposal card is going to Dana this week!).

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. And today? Today is a gift. That's why we call it the present.
