Another View from President Lou

Passion and commitment are the key words to describe DG Larry Calabrese and his wife Annabelle's program last Friday. Those in attendance heard and witnessed an honset expression of passion and commitment. It has been quite awhile since we experienced such leadership. Our District Governor has given us the path to Make Dreams Real. With his guidance and leadership our responsibility now is to "walk the talk" with DG Larry and make it happen.

I realize that I am preaching to the choir (forgive the metaphor, Father Paul), but our attendance for the governor's official visit was 39 Utica Rotarians - about 1/4 of our active membership. We have many members who earn attendance credit through their project and committee work, but we need to improve participation in our Friday meetings. The Membership Committee cannot stand alone! Let's be proactive. Reach out to those members that we haven't seen in awhile, and tell them that we miss their involvement.

August 7, 2008 at Aqua Vino Restaurant (formerly Kitty's on the Canal) is an excellent forum for potential members. Let them see the world of Rotary and the good work that is done here in the Mohawk Valley and around the world. This multi club forum is from 5-7pm and is designed to get the word out about Rotary. Please consider bringing a colleague who would make a good Rotarian.

DUES ARE DUE....AT A REDUCED PRICE!

From popcorn to petrol, we are in a protracted period of persistent price proliferation pinching our pocketbooks. It is no different for Utica Rotary, as our per capita payments to District 7150 and Rotary International have both increased for this Rotary year. Despite this unfriendly economic environment, some relief is here thanks to the work of President Lou Steppello and your board of directors.

Annual dues for 2008-09 have been reduced to $200 per year. The board has taken this action to improve membership retention and assist our new member recruitment efforts.

OK, there is a tiny catch. The $200 rate applies to only those members who pay in full by September 1, 2008. After 9/1, the amount due is $230. Club treasurer Ken Williams has sent invoices to all club members, so if you haven't received your bill, please see Ken.

You can pay by check, or by credit card at the Pay Pal link on our club web site. For those who have sent in payment, we thank you. To the procrastinators out there......what are you waiting for?

Hub Gets Makeover

If you are reading this, then you are quite aware that Utica Rotary's weekly online newsletter has received a facelift. The Hub is only one element of the complete overhaul of our club web site by Tim Bozer and the crew of the Technology committee. The rework was designed to standardize the look of all elements of our site, and to make our web presence more user friendly. Our home page address is still www.uticarotary.org

There have been great improvements behind the scenes as well. Our club database is now centrally located, so officers have access to the latest information as needed. Membership data, program info, calendar events and volunteer assignments are now stored in our database, and are automatically updated to the site as needed.

Please "kick the tires" on the new club and Hub sites, and let us know what you think. Click here to email secretary Dana with your comments and suggestions.
