Hubby New
Year!!!
It's the New Year, which means that this Rotary
year is half over. As you ponder your list of
resolutions for 2008, consider any of the
following Utica Rotary related resolutions:
Before June 30, 2008, I resolve to:
-
Propose a new member to Utica Rotary
-
Volunteer for the 2008 District Conference,
hosted by Utica Rotary
-
Invite a Youth Exchange student to dinner
-
Tell Sam Rudolph that you will be an
emergency sub for Friday Committee duties
-
Call Bingo at Eden Park (third Monday of
every month)
-
Work on one project at Columbus School
-
Propose another new member to Utica Rotary

Eden Park Bingo a Rotary
Fixture
Gib Jones holds down fort for chair Roger
Breslow
I
had the honor of being in charge of Bingo at
Eden Park on December 17. We had a smaller crowd
than usual, but many exhilarating games. Egg nog,
crackers and cheese were served; everyone stayed
sober and no drinks were spilled. The winners
all received teddy bears.
The
Rotarians present (all regular volunteers) were:
Mary Lou Caskey, Dom Passalcqua, Shawki Elgarhi,
and your humble scribe (PP Gib Jones).
The next Eden Park Bingo night is Monday,
January 21, 2008.

PLXIV On the Horizon
The new year brings thoughts of upcoming
events, including our annual Utica Rotary
Poet Laureate Contest. The 14th incarnation
of this evening of dubious artistic value
will take place on Thursday, February 21,
2008 at the Fort Schuyler Club in Utica.
The club's Poet Laureate, Geoff Wheatley,
will fly to the Mohawk Valley from Hilton
Head, SC, for the sole purpose of defending
his crown (he is therefore the early
favorite for the Dr. Phil "What Is Wrong
With You" Award). Several past contestants,
including poets laureate attempting to
relive past glory, are threatening to enter
the fray, and newcomers are always welcome.
Upcoming The Hubs will contain more details,
including entry forms and ticket
information. For now, mark your calendars
for the evening of 2/21 as the Utica Rotary
social and arts event of the year (or at
least that week).

It's COOOOLD...And
Winter Clothes Are Needed
Each Friday through the end
of January,
Utica Rotary's Urban Concerns Committee will be
collecting winter clothes for local children.. Any
cold weather item in good condition will be accepted.
Please check your closets, attics and storage boxes for
items, and bring them to Twin Ponds this Friday.

Vote Early
and Often
From now through Friday,
January 18, Utica Rotary is holding its election for
officers and directors for the 2008-09 Rotary year.
Balloting will be via a website (click on the link in
the In This Issue box to go there). This is your chance
to elect the policy makers for our club, so take
advantage.
