Rotary at Its
Best
by Jim
Turnbull, District 3 Group Study Exchange Chair

Our District and Club had a
very successful Group Study Exchange visit this past
week from our friends from District 3200, India. The
team was in our area from October, 17 to October 25.
The members were of very high charter and very focused
on getting the most out of the time they had available.
They were all very focused on there vocations and seeing
how we do things in the US. None of the team members had
been in the United States. The entire team was very
interested in getting as much vocational time as we
could arrange. We also had a lot of fun with them at
other events during their time with us.
On behalf of the club, I
would like to thank PP Dom Passalacqua who housed
the team leader, Maddy, Jim Day for
housing Mohan, and JoElyn Wakefield Wright
for housing ALL three of our ladies, Hema,
Sonika and Vinla. They were with them the
entire week. Thanks also to Angela VanDerhoof for
arranging housing and help on the vocational day
schedule and transport. DGE Larry Calibrese for
transporting the team members to many places. Also,
Sadieanne Spear and Shawki Elgarhi, John
Storey from the New Hartford Club and David
Kobernuss from Rome and Tony Piana from
Little Falls for their time with the team.
The group had a great
experience in our area. We changed their perception of
us much to the positive from how the media in India
perceives the United States and New York. This
outstanding international program is made possible in
large part by your donations to our Service Fund, and we
thank you for making it happen.

Foundation In
The Spotlight
The Rotary Foundation
provides the support needed for the good work of
Rotarians worldwide. Through Foundation grants and
programs, Rotarians and other contributors can help
change the world. They can finance a well for a village
that lacks clean water, improve the environment, or
provide scholarships to educate the next generation. The
grants and programs available to Rotarians allow them to
realize Rotary’s humanitarian mission throughout the
world, including its number-one goal of eradicating
polio.
From Disaster Recovery to
Volunteer Services to the many Educational grant
programs, the Rotary Foundation gives us the resources
to work our Rotary magic. Over the years, generous Utica
Rotarians have given more than $250,000 to the
Foundation and its programs. Since its first donation of
$26.50 back in 1917 (thanks, Gib), the Foundation has
received more than $1 billion from Rotarians and friends
of Rotary throughout the world.

Friday to learn the latest about the Rotary Foundation.
