Service Fund Seeks to Raise $20,000 for Utica Rotary Projects

This could be you!  Utica Rotarian Carol Jubenville enjoys the Adirondack vista during her stay at the Mirror Lake Inn near Lake Placid..  Carol and hubby Bob were the big winners in last year's Service Fund prize drawing.

Our Service Fund kickoff was this past Friday, October 19.. We have set a goal is $20,000, to be raised from member donations (no duck derbies for us). The Service Fund supports all of our clubs service programs, from the annual Special Needs Christmas party (12/7/07), to Youth Exchange, to our Columbus School adoption, to Youth Services, to our many award programs, to our College Mentor program, to our Urban Concerns projects.....the list is extensive!

As always, we need the support of all members to make this happen. The recommended minimum gift is $170.00, but we recognize that it is not possible for all to give at this level.  Jim Turnbull and Kevin Marken, fund drive chairs, have once again contracted with the Mirror Lake Inn to provide a weekend getaway as the top prize in our end of drive drawing. All those members who give $170 or more will be eligible for the prize drawing. .Those giving at the $200 and above level will also receive a commemorative lapel pin.

It is now easier than ever to send in your pledge.  We will have pledge cards on all tables at Twin Ponds each Friday through the end of the campaign (1/15/08).  If you have a card from last Friday, please send it in, or (better yet) bring it to this Friday's meeting. You can hand it to Kevin Marken, Carol Gilberti or Jim Turnbull. You can also e-mail it to Jim at jbtiv@juno.com Snail mail is always accepted at PO Box 323, Washington Mills, NY 13479. Our club website, www.uticarotary.org has a link for service fund donations via credit card or your Pay Pal account.

Last Friday we welcomed the Group Study Exchange team from District 3200, India.  The GSE program is a great example of your Service Fund dollars being put to best use.

If you have returned your pledge, thank you for your support of our club's programs. If not, please consider contributing some fuel to Utica Rotary's service engine!!

Outstanding YE Prospect Pool

Following a very successful recruitment kick off info event on September 19, that has attracted some 30 students from 5 local schools and an unusual number of interested parents, the local Rotary Youth Exchange consortium has received 20 applications for the outbound class 2008-09. This is the most successful outcome since we founded our local MV JYE Consortium in 2003. Interviews conducted by Rotary volunteers will wrap up this week. Youth Exchange is a year long volunteer commitment, and we appreciate the long hours spent by Shawki Elgarhi and committee to make our program one of the best in the world.
