Introduce a
Prospect to Utica Rotary This Wednesday
Utica Rotary
will be front and center this Wednesday (10/17) at the
Radisson in downtown Utica. PP Jack Altdoerffer
and the membership committee are throwing a Membership
Happy Hour beginning at 5:00 pm.
This is a
major prospecting event for our club, and we need all
hands on deck. Consider inviting a potential new member
for some after work Utica Rotary fellowship mixed with a
dose of Rotary education. If you bring a prospect
to this event, you and your guest will receive a
beverage of your choice on the house!
As an added
bonus, you will receive meeting attendance credit for
your participation. We'll see you there!

Collection
for Myanmar Refugees Continues Throughout October
Utica
Rotary's 2007 Make a Difference Day project is underway.
We are collecting needed supplies for Burmese
(Myanmar) refugee families relocating to this area.
These items will be collected at Twin Ponds at each club
meeting throughout October - trash bash, new sponges,
paper towels, bathroom/kitchen cleaner, toilet bowl
brushes, dish soap, shower curtains, light bulbs. Other
items needed to furnish a new living space will also be
accepted.
Thanks to
PP Dave Jones and the Urban Concerns Committee for
bringing to us this opportunity to serve.

Mentors
Needed for College Student Program
Our student
mentor program has expanded to three area college
campuses, and protégés are being recruited at Utica
College, Hamilton College, and SUNY IT.
Sam Rudolph
and Norma Montagnino Gemza are looking for a few good
mentors (with apologies to the USMC). Ideally, the
committee would have a pool of ten volunteers to work
with these young men and women. The mentors would be
responsible for the four goals of the program:
-
Establish
a community leadership mentoring relationship
-
Cultivate
community leadership skills
-
Build
career networking opportunities
-
Learn
more about "Service Above Self"
The program
requires students to participate in an orientation
program, spend at least 10 hours with their mentor
during the spring semester, participate in a Rotary
service project, attend several Rotary meetings, and
deliver a final presentation to the Utica Rotary Club.
The success
of this program has been due in large part to the
quality of mentors, and we are looking to continue that
tradition. Please consider a mentorship as one of
your Rotary projects this year. The mentor
application is available by clicking on the link in the
"In This Issue" box at the top of this page.
Protégé
applications are due on 11/16, the welcome meeting for
accepted students is set for 12/7, and the official
program kick off is January 25, 2008. Please contact
Sam or
Norma if you have any questions about this Utica
Rotary program.
