Spotlight

Anthony Stronach
(left) and Tasuku Hashimoto flank President
Ralph Imundo at our meeting last Friday. Tasuku is
from Nagasaki, Japan, and will spend a year as a senior
at Whitesboro High School. Anthony is a member of Rotex,
and spent a year in Japan as a Rotary exchange student
during the 2005-06 school year. Anthony is on the
president's list at MVCC and plans to specialize in
languages at a four year college and in graduate school.
Since returning from Japan, Anthony has become a trained
medical interpreter in Japanese. Those present at the
Roselawn will recall that during their presentation
Tasuku spoke perfect English and Anthony greeted us in
fluent Japanese.

Are you a graduate of a
local college?
The College Student
Leadership Mentoring Committee is compiling a list of
Utica Rotarians who have graduated from Mohawk Valley
Schools. At present we are particularly interested in
graduates from our mentoring partners - Utica College,
SUNY IT and Hamilton College. We'll also compile a list
of graduates from other local schools (MVCC, HCCC, USC,
Pratt, etc.)
What will we do with this
list?
We would like to have
statements on the mentoring application from area
college grads who are also Utica Rotarians. Information
we will ask for in the future is what it meant to attend
school here, how your schooling influenced your
leadership direction etc.
Please email your name,
school and year of graduation to
Norma Montagnino-Gemza, Mentoring Committee
Chair, normamg@yahoo.com. The committee will then
contact you for a possible statement. Your name will not
be published without your consent. Many thanks!

A Thong To Open
the Meeting

District Governor
Nominee Larry Calabrese has an unusual answer to the
question "Could I please have some more water?" as he
douses PP Jack Altdoerffer at our Roast of PP
Jack at the Roselawn last Friday. Many of Jack's family
members were in attendance as Utica Rotary paid tribute
to the man who made the best Rotary club even better in
2006-07. More photos are available by clicking on the
link in the In This Issue box at the upper right of this
page.
