An Urban
Concerns Fish Story
by Virginia Barney, The
Hub Outdoor Sports Reporter

This one didnt' get
away! A proud angler displays her catch during the
Urban Concerns Family Fishing Picnic at Lock 20 on
Friday, June 8.
More than 60 children of
The Neighborhood and Thea Bowman Centers along with
parents, staff and Rotarians turned out for the Urban
Concerns Committee first annual fishing day/cookout at
Lock 20 in Marcy. Few expressions are more precious than
the look on a child's face after catching their first
fish. Only two children were so lucky but their
infectious smiles were felt by everyone. It was simply a
wonderful day and great time had by all.
Special thanks to Rotarians
Matt Wilson and DGE Larry Calabrese
(keepers of the grills); Eve and Dale Van
deWal along with Rick and Katie Sebastian
(for their patience as fishing instructors); VP Lou
Steppello (chief food server), Virginia and
Bob Barney (transportation and hula hoop
specialists) and PP Dave Jones (event
coordinator).
This event help bond our
partnerships as many parents and children look forward
to a picnic hike in the fall!
