Mary Lou Takes a Stab at a Final Bowling Report

"Beware the Ides of March"

The Rotary Bowling League concluded its season on March 15 at Aqua Vino with a banquet to award the prizes. Thank you to Secretary-Treasurer Craig Briggs for all his hard work this season.

The top team was Briggs' House of Payne (Craig Briggs, Ann Briggs, Dick Briggs, Mike Payne and sometimes Jim Barclay). They won the Second Half of the season and the roll off with the winner of the First Half, Vocational (George Penree, Deb Penree, Trish LaBella, John Kasprzyk).

High average for the men went to George Penree, League President and all-round good guy, with a 219. He also took scratch high 30 with a 780!!! For you tennis players that means high 3 game total without handicap. 3 perfect games would be 900. High scratch 30 for the ladies went to Trish LaBella with a 757!!!
The last week tournament was won by The Ringers (Carolyn McAleese, Jim LaBella, Rob Heffernan, and Elvis Nunziata). This was poetic justice since this team came in last in the standings for the season.

JoElyn Wakefield-Wright's team, The Hot Wheels, got matching shirts this season, making a very nice fashion statement. Determined to bring her class and elegance to the alleys she also pioneered drinking wine during the game. And this combination is apparently working because they placed 4th this season. Class and elegance----well that's one way to go.

The Hubbers (Bob Benedict, Bill Davies, Mary Lou and Ben Reape), struggled all season with injuries, malaise, hydration issues and absenteeism. We placed 6th out of 8 teams. It was a tough season for the Hubbers, last season's champions, but we ground it out. The Hubbers are looking forward to next season and a better showing. Over the summer we will be working out at the gym, bowling a few games, playing the horses, and doing some road work  ourselves to keep our instruments finely tuned. In addition we will also be sampling beverages to find the best choice for next season. For dedicated athletes, the season never ends.

If you would like to try this sport of King--pins, you can join us in April when we bowl with the Exchange Students. More on this later.

This is your Bowling Scribe signing off for the summer! Keep your ball shiny!
